Major: Chemistry, Forensic Science option

Peer Mentor: Lindsay Winkenbach

Faculty Mentor: Dr. Staci Simonich

I was born in San Fransisco, California but moved to and grew up in San Diego. I chose to come to OSU because of the many opportunities given here to help students engage in research that correlates to their major and/or career pathway. I am majoring in Chemistry with the option in Forensic Science. I plan on becoming a medical examiner or forensic lab worker. For my undergraduate research, I will be examining organic compounds and pollutants that come from different areas around Oregon and observe how it affects animals, people, etc. I will be getting to use a mass spectrometer and gas chromatograph, which are instruments that are used in forensics. As I’ve said before, I want to become a medical examiner once finishing my education because I want to help society in a way that is behind the scenes, in my opinion. I want to be able to bring closure to those who are affected by crimes committed and make sure those who commit those crimes are caught. So far, what I like most about OSU is how helpful and understanding the instructors and teaching assistants are with whatever questions I have when I need help.
