I’m from Hood River, Oregon, which is part of the unique Gorge. I grew up surrounded by numerous beautiful hiking trails, orchards of applies, pears, and cherries, and a supportive community. Thanks to a encouraging community and my hard work I am a recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship. I choose OSU for its extensive research background and its proximity to Hood River. As of right now, I am planning to major in biology with a double minor in Spanish and psychology, along with completing a Medical Humanities Certificate, a distinctive option that allows OSU students to view medicine through the lenses of the social sciences. I will be working with Dr. Joe Beckman in his search for the cure of ALS. We are currently working with mice, but will hopefully begin to conduct research on dogs. Canines also develop ALS.  I want to pursue a career in narrative medicine and travel around the globe.  I love that OSU offers an extensive network of faculty and services that I can use to help me succeed. My favorite resource is the LSAMP program. LSAMP introduced me to my now good friends and made the transition from high school to college a whole lot easier.
